MTHS Band Rehearsal April 24, 2009
II—Flts, Clarinet—subdivide using the sixteenth note in order to play the correct rhythm
Bassoons and Baritone—play the soli part out and make sure that you can be heard.  Everyone else should play so quiet that this part can be heard.
JJ—Decrescendo so that the picc and flute part can be heard
KK –Bans, Eb Clt, Clt, Alto Clt- make sure you are playing the right rhythm, subdivide thinking 16th notes so that the dotted eight sixteen note rhythm is played correctly
LL--Bsns, Alto Clt, Ten Sax, Tromb, Baritones-Part should be heard above other melody, if you cannot hear this part than you are playing too loud.
MM—Flute, piccs, oboes, 1st clar, Eb clar—new melody should be the one most heard at this point
-Quarter notes should be smooth and connected and should not be louder than the melody
NN—Trumpets—really bring out this part and make it known that you are there, not to the point where it drowns out but the harmony should be heard below the melody
--all with the quarter notes and half notes should play with intensity but the notes should not be too loud.  Example: “Like when a mother yells at her child in the store she keeps quiet but you can tell she is mad”
One Measure before the end, trumpets really bring out that part and make it known that you are there.
Run the piece.

MTHS Symphonic Band Rehearsal Plan

Date: April 17, 2009

Primary Rehearsal Section:

      1. -B Alto Sax, Cornet, Horns, Baritone Play that note that is held very quietly but with a lot of intensity.

        - Everyone who has the long note one measure after B I want an accent that sounds like a forte piano, and then bring it down

      2. I -Parts that play stacatto eighth notes, and two and, very light and detached.

-Low Brass and winds who have the melody should play the line with bounce but not too detached.

-two measures before J, forte piano, cresc

-eighth notes parts bring out your part more to help keep motion and build up to J

        -exeggerated the accents

      3. J -Oboe, 3rd clarinet, Alto Sax, Cornets, Trumpets, Horns, 1st and 2nd Trombones, Baritone. Accent eighth notes to bring them out, it should sound as if the band is constantly playing eight notes.

-People with half notes and quarter notes come back in volume a little bit so the other parts could be heard, play smoothly

      4. K -Parts with half and quarter notes play as if it is slurred even if it isn't marked, play smoothly.

-Tuba, Bass Clarinet, play part so that it is round sounding and not short and punchy

-Moving eighth notes, bring out part but don't play too loud because you are all playing in unison so it is going to be loud naturally. Bring out accents and really stress the slurs.

      5. L -Horns and Cornets, really accent the down beat, use the eighth note to bounce off of, turn the dotted quarter into a quarter with an eighth rest.

-everyone except for trombone and baritones two measures before M, bring it down and build up to M

-Trombones and Baritones play the part loud but not so loud that you can not build from it, and keep and clean tone there, don't splat.
