Help Us With NSSE Survey
This week our freshman and senior year students will receive an invitation from President MacDonald to complete the National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE). This survey, which was last administered on our campus in 2007, assists colleges and universities in documenting the extent to which students, faculty, and institutions engage in particular educational activities and to inform programs and practices that foster student engagement. Undergraduates are asked to respond to questions about how they feel the institution has contributed to their development, their activities both in and out of the classroom, the quality of their relationships with students and faculty, and other educationally meaningful activities and perceptions.
This information will be particularly important as we complete our Middle States self-study in the months ahead. We will receive our data from NSSE in late summer, and campus presentations will be made in the 2010-2011 academic year. Departments wishing to further analyze data by major will have the opportunity to do so. Further, this will be the first time that we will be looking longitudinally at responses (the students who took the survey as freshmen in 2007 will now be taking it as seniors in 2010).
Please encourage all freshman and senior year students to take part in this Web-based survey which will remain open through April. We had remarkable response rates in 2007 (73% of freshmen and 82% of seniors) and hope to duplicate this success in 2010.
