New and Continuing Resources from the Bishop Library

Philosophy Documentation Center CollectionThe Library recently started a subscription to the “Philosophy Documentation Center Collection”.  This collection, also known as POIESIS: Philosophy Online Serials”, is a subscription based reference and publishing service offering searchable access to the full text of hundreds of issues of a selection of philosophy journals and series. Every word in every available issue is fully searchable, including thousands of articles, book reviews, and dissertation listings, as well as all abstracts, footnotes, and bibliographic listings.  Bishop Library has full-text access to 31 titles.  Retrieval sets can be limited to only those 31 titles that are accessible to the LVC community.  Search results can also be limited by category, publication type, language, and journal title.  There are also save, email, and export features.  Links to the collection can be found on page 5 of the “Online Databases” listing that is accessible from the Library’s web page.

“Academic Complete” Trial Subscription ExtendedThe Library has extended the trial subscription to an electronic book collection called “Academic Complete”.  This digital collection contains over 47,000 titles from over 300 publishers in various disciplines including business & economics, history & political science, physical sciences, humanities and others.  A majority of the titles have been published since 2004.  Various “InfoTools” such as highlighting, notes, and bookshelves are present within the interface.  There is an advanced search feature to find items by title, author, subject, language, and keyword.  A link entitled “ebrary” can be found on page 2 of the “Online Databases” listing that is accessible from the Library’s web page.   A quick review of the help feature, especially the searching section, will make your visit a little easier.

The Bishop librarians would be happy to answer any questions.
