Retrieving Basic Information About Your Computer

clip_image002If you need to retrieve basic information about your computer, e.g., Windows operating system name, version (32bit or 64bit), service patch level or computer name, the following are keyboard shortcuts for retrieving this information.

  • On desktop computer
    • hold down the Windows key win2 and press the Pause/Break key in the upper right corner of your keyboard.
  • On a laptop computer
    • hold down the Windows win2and Fn keys and press the Pause key in the upper right corner of your keyboard. (On laptop computer keyboards, the Pause function may be in blue and require the Fn key.)

Windows 7 Explorer Favorites

Windows 7 users may have noticed that there's a “Favorites” section off to the left of the explorer window.

It looks like this:



To reduce folder browsing when looking for a file, you can add a favorite folder location to Explorer. First browse to the folder that you want to make a favorite; right-click “Favorites” in the left pane and select “Add current location to Favorites”.



Now whenever you open Explorer you'll be able to jump directly to your most frequently used places.
