LVC Wireless–Unable to Connect to Wireless

LVC Wireless – Status shows as Connected but no network access.

Summary:

Some users may experience a problem where their status shows as connected to LVC Wireless but they don’t have internal network or internet access.

Symptoms:

· User gets a 169.x.x.x IP address instead of an LVC wireless IP address

· Wireless status shows as “currently connected to Identifying, Local Only, No Internet access or Unidentified Network”

· Examples of status.

Solution:

1. Start | Control Panel | Network and Sharing Center | Manage Wireless Networks | Select LVC Wireless | Remove | click Yes when asked if you’re sure you want to remove. Now Connect to LVC Wireless.

2. Reset the TCP/IP Stack: Start | type CMD in the Search programs and files box | On the Applications List | Right click CMD and select Run as Administrator | in the CMD window: type netsh winsock reset | Restart computer then connect to LVC Wireless.

Can I use my iPhone or Android device on the LVC Network?

Absolutely! To use an iPhone or iPod Touch on the LVC Network please follow the directions below.

 

  1. Your iPhone or iPod Touch will automatically recognize the LVC Wireless network.
  2. After connecting to LVC Wireless, open your web browser.
  3. Try to connect to any non-LVC web site out on the Internet.
  4. Click"Start" on the welcome homepage, and enter your LVC username and password.
  5. Choose "iPhone/iPod Touch" as the device type and click "Download".
  6. You are now registered on the LVC Wireless network!

How do I connect to the residence hall network? (ResNet)

  1. Plug one end of your Ethernet cable into the Ethernet port on your computer.
  2. Plug the other end of the cable into the data jack on the wall in your room. The data jack normally is blue in color, or labeled "Data" or "Computer".
  3. Start your computer and open your web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer, Safari, etc.).
  4. Try to connect to any non-LVC web site out on the Internet.
  5. If you have already registered your computer on the campus network, you will be connected to the off-campus web site. If not, continue with the steps below.
  6. You will see a network registration screen. Click Start, and enter your LVC username and password.
  7. Enter the additional information requested and upon successful completion you will have full access to the Internet.

You also are required to have up-to-date antivirus software on your computer. Note: Current, full-time LVC students may use the College's antivirus software at no charge. Download Antivirus Software
