Database of the Month: National Geographic Virtual Library

 

National Geographic Virtual Library is a complete digital archive of the National Geographic Magazine from 1888-present. Through this digital library, you can easily search and access every page of every issue of the magazine.

The National Geographic Virtual Library supports students of all levels and provides access to primary-source materials. National Geographic magazine covers a wide-range of subject areas such as:

  • *Peoples and Cultures
    *Environment
    *Geography
    *Science and Technology
    *Animals
    *Photography and Journalism

Searching options include keyword searching (both basic and advanced), browse searching (issue by issue or date), or image searching. You also have the ability to do a search within a specific issue of a magazine. A list of related subjects helps you find additional articles on similar topics.

Articles can be printed as well as citations generated in APA and MLA format.  Additional tools include saving, bookmarking, adding private tags, and emailing citations.   Features such as saving and adding private tags require the creation of a free account.
