New E-Resources for Social Sciences, Music, and English

Bishop Library has three new e-resources in the subject areas of Social Sciences, Music, and English.  You can access these new resources from the Library's webpage at under Articles & Databases.

ICPSR is the world's largest archive of computer-readable social science data, with over 500,000 files of research in the social sciences. In addition to archiving collections from disciplines such as sociology, political science, history, and economics, ICPSR has seven special emphases:  gerontology, substance abuse and mental health, criminal justice, child care, health and medical care, education, and demography. Downloading of data requires the creation of an account.  LVC faculty, students and staff can create an ICPSR account using the login/create account link on the Find Data page. 

The Grove Dictionary of American Music is the digital version of the eight volume print reference resource (2nd ed.), a comprehensive reference resource on American music.  Articles include brief definitions, biographies and more in-depth subject examinations such as the history of jazz, musical instruments, music education, and the history of the orchestra.  Over 400 images and 140 musical examples are included.  

The Oxford English Dictionary online or OED is considered the world's most authoritative and comprehensive dictionary of the English language.   The OED includes over 600,000 words and is a guide to their meaning, history and pronunciation. It traces the usage and development of words with the inclusion of over 3 million quotations from international English language sources. The OED online is updated quarterly with word revisions and new additions.
